Polar Circle Marathon
10-11 Apr 2021 / 30-31 Oct 2021

The Coolest Marathon on Earth

Ice as far as the eye can see. Incredibly fresh air. Musk oxen and arctic foxes on the stark landscape of the arctic tundra.

Yes, we are in one of the most remote corners of the world: Greenland. Feel the soft crunch of snow beneath your shoes while running through the arctic desert and over the Greenland Ice Sheet as you immerse yourself in rare and exceptional natural beauty... what more could we ask for?

The Polar Circle Marathon - often referred to as "the coolest marathon on Earth" takes place in Kangerlussuaq, Greenland. The endless ice and arctic tundra of this vast country are the backdrop for this unusual race, in which runners race through the soundless arctic desert past glacier tongues and moraine landscapes. This is a rare opportunity to visit one of the most remote corners of the world while daring to take part in an extremely challenging running event.

A part of the route takes place on the ice cap itself, but the main part of the course is run on the gravel road (often snow covered) that connects the ice sheet with the small township of Kangerlussuaq, just north of the Polar Circle.

Unfortunately the COVID-19 situation is not yet under control and due to regulations from the government in Greenland we are not able to go through with the Polar Circle Marathon 2020 in October.

Instead of just cancelling we're postponing the 2020 race to April 2021. Thus 2021 will feature two Polar Circle Marathons - the 2020 race in April and the 2021 race in October.
All participants in the October 2020 event have been emailed with details on how to move forward.

We, at Albatros Adventure Marathons, are of course sorry for the outcome of the October 2020 race, but hope to see you in April or October 2021.

Stay safe and hope to see you soon!

As the current situation regarding COVID-19 is constantly changing, we hope to give our runners some peace of mind by offering a full refund on all cancellations made by the 31st of December 2020, this includes all 2021 races.

What a fantastic and intimate experience! I was amazed at the great logistics in such a harsh environment! Lars and Annette and the doctors were amazing hosts!
