History of Albatros Adventure Marathons, Organizers of the Polar Circle Marathon

It all began with in 1998 with a crazy idea to run a marathon on the Great Wall of China. In 1999, this idea became a reality with the running of the first Great Wall Marathon. The initial success of this "adventure marathon" concept led to the creation of a new organizing authority, Albatros Adventure Marathons, which set out to unite international runners through challenges hosted in locations of exceptional natural beauty and historical significance.

Today, Polar Circle Marathon is just one in a series of annual and internationally-recognized, running travel events that Albatros Adventure Marathons organizes around the world.

What others thought

It was an unbelievable experience, one that was truly out of the ordinary. If you enjoy extreme sports and going to different places, this is one for you. It was also extremely well run by the team in the harshest of conditions.

Heather Casey,
2015 Polar Circle Marathon finisher

I "got" all that I wanted: extremely cold temperatures, amazing landscape on the ice cap and along the road, end-of-the-world feeling. PLUS the organization was very good (considering the location...), the atmosphere between the runners at Polar Lodge very friendly. And the Polar Bear Challenge is such a good idea, for the challange AND for having the chance to go one more time on the ice cap, with possibly different weather conditions and so different "views".

Nicolas Muller,
2015 Polar Circle Marathon finisher

What a fantastic and intimate experience! I was amazed at the great logistics in such a harsh environment! Lars and Annette and the doctors were amazing hosts!
